Rene Berndt, Assoc. AIA - Project Manager

Curriculum Vitae

Rene Berndt was born in Germany 1966.  He received his Architectural Diploma from the “Technical University of Aachen, RWTH” in 1993.  In 1989 Rene was granted a British Council Scholarship to study at the “Architectural Association, School of Architecture” in London.  As a student Rene worked in architectural offices in Bonn, Cologne, Hamburg, New York, Barcelona and received the “Schinkel-Anerkennungs” Student Architecture Prize of Germany together with Stefan Baumgart for their competition entry “Olympic Village – Berlin 2OOO”.  In 1993 he started working with Max. Burgmayer Architects, Berlin and realized various residential, commercial and health related projects which were recognized by the local press.  Rene Berndt became a member of the “Berlin Chamber of Architects” in 1995 and immigrated to the United States in 1999.  After working in Los Angeles he finally moved to Monterey and became part of DHAIA in summer 2000.  

Rene is an Associate Member of the AIAMB since 2000 and the Associate Director of AIAMB since 2001.

Heather Marquard, RA, LEED AP- Project Manager

Heather Marquard  is a registered architect in Michigan where she owned her own firm consulting for architects, engineers, contractors, and facility managers on environmentally friendly building, project management, and design.

She has worked as an architect, designer, and project manager on a variety of projects, from the very small ($200,000 construction cost) to the very large ($200 million). Her work has ranged from industrial and R&D to commercial and educational and has covered scopes from interior fit-out of a small office area to multi-building campus complexes.

Heather has a passion for environmentally friendly building design and has worked on several LEED™ registered projects. She is a member of the USGBC, both locally and nationally, and works as a faculty member, teaching the principles of LEED and green building to other professionals across the country.

Heather is a LEED accredited professional, Competent Toast Master, CSI certified Construction Documents Technologist, past member of the AIA Michigan Committee on the Environment and founding member of the USGBC Detroit Regional Chapter.

Melissa Tunnermann, Allied IIDA-Project Designer 

Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, 2004
Florida State University - Tallahassee, FL

Melissa recently  joined the firm of DHAIA.  Prior to joining our firm, Melissa worked for an architecture/interior design firm in San Antonio, TX.  A constant passion for design and an inherent sense of style inspired Melissa to pursue a career in Interior Design. The technical  training she received in her studies at  Florida State University and her innate sense of function and style combine to create an environment that is both beautiful and functional. Whatever the motivation, Melissa understands how important the look and feel of an interior space is. She uses her creativity and commitment to create functional interiors that express the client's distinctive style.

Virgilio P. Quina Jr., Assoc. AIA - Intern Architect

Virgil was born and raised in the Philippines. In 1992, his family moved to the United States and settled in Monterey Peninsula.

Virgil joined the firm of DHAIA the summer of 2003.  He is experienced in CAD and 3D graphics along with other skills as related to small project management and production.

Virgil is an Associate Member of the AIA

Ashley Waldron, Assoc. AIA - Intern Architect

Bachelor of Architecture,  2004

One year of study in architecture and urban design.
Denmark's International School - Copenhagen, DK

Ashley  joined the firm of DHAIA in December of 2004.  Prior to joining our firm, Ashley worked for a designer in Santa Cruz for 4 consecutive summers.  Her position was as a draftsperson and designer which gave her the opportunity to design small remodels for commercial and residential projects.   She is experienced in CAD, graphic design and model-building.  Ashley was born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA and enjoys traveling and running on the beach.

Mimi Haberfeld - Business Manager

Born in Oregon, raised in California, Mimi lived and worked for nearly a decade in Switzerland where she focused on honing her considerable management skills in the accounting and computing culture of one of the "Big Five" Accounting firms.

A natural at organization and a serious student of the art of placement, Mimi brings her background in psychology, as well as her sense of taste and style to the table here at DHAIA where she works to support and guide our team.
